The Caleb Schaffitzel Watch — Week 9

Caleb Schaffitzel has his sights set on breaking Missouri's most hallowed HS football record.
Caleb Schaffitzel has a chance to break Missouri’s high school career touchdown mark Thursday at Pleasant Hope.

Friday night was quite a birthday present for Caleb Schaffitzel.

With five rushing touchdowns in a dramatic 38-30 come-from-behind district victory at Strafford, the Fair Grove High School senior tailback tied Brad Hocker’s state record for TDs in a career with 129. On his 18th birthday, Schaffitzel ripped off 300 yards on 22 carries, including TD runs of 7, 10, 24, 30, and 82.

With one more TD in Thursday night’s game at Pleasant Hope, Schaffitzel will wrest the record away from Archie’s Hocker and might put it where no one else will ever touch it. As of right now, he has 129 and with the Eagles locked in to the playoffs with a 9-0 record — 2-0 in the district — Fair Grove will have at least two more games, if not more.

But let’s not jinx him, let’s just enjoy the season he is having — 37 TDs and counting.
